"Wanted to pass along a travel recommendation for us gf travelers. My family just returned from Ireland and my daughter and I both were amazed by and thrilled with the food scene in the country. Whether we were at a 5 star restaurant or the airport cafe, in a city or a small village, we found the food in Ireland is labelled clearly and extensively. The people who work in restaurants "get" food allergies. In fact, most menus have up to 12 numbers listed after each dish to indicate which allergen is present. We ordered with ease and had absolutely no difficulties whatsoever. While we could only sniff at the Guinness "steam" during the Guinness Storehouse Tour (I never liked Guinness anyway), we found plenty of delicious hard ciders to enjoy alongside our beer drinking family members We both can't wait to go back. As my daughter said, "I feel normal when ordering it. It's just not a big deal to ask for gf here."
"A quick non-gf-specific plug for the tour company we used. Collins Travel did a phenomenal job of helping me plan the itinerary and gave our family a fabulous driver//tour guide for the entire time we were there. The driver/guide (Bobby Murray) was so helpful in every aspect of our trip- he, like many Irish people, has several relatives with celiac and he had great restaurant recommendations for us."
